Examples of Album Covers post Print
Alongside looking at Music videos, as a form of publicity and advertisment, I have looked at other types of media used to advertise artists in the form of Print products. The artist i looked at was The Script as I like their style of random album artwork. Print products are important for artists as they help to advertise there work and it can sell records.
THE SCRIPT ALBUM COVER
This album cover is taken from The Script's 2008 album called - The Script which was released in Ireland 8th August and then the rest of thr UK 11th August very different and unique, with its mixed media images, it has kept The Script's signature feature - the hand - and created artwork around it. The city skyline in the background looks as if it is the irish skyline, the hand outstretched and holding two dancing lovers, who are possibly dancing to the songs. The title is typical - The Script - style and is very simple, spaced out, white against the blue sky background.
The back cover is kept as simple as the title wording. The background is a slate white colour and the wording black, a very simple effect. The wording is easy to read, straight to the point and in clear font. Even the barcode is in a logical position - at the bottom where it can be scanned easily. the rights are at the bottom under the barcode - a very simple design that works.
MY VERSION OF THE SCRIPT SINGLE
- TOGETHER WE CRY - ALBUM
I used Paintshop to edit my image of Amber and used little words and phrases from the song Together We Cry such as the girls name Jenny tattooed on Amber's side, and the name Hope, Jenny's daughter in the song. Amber is meant to represent Jenny the 14 year old girl who has a baby, she is dressed like a typical teenager and looks realistic. The eye represents the crying throughout the song. The front cover for the single is quite dark and sad which matches the tone of the song, which gives the audience a real sense of the music they will be hearing - a similar style to The Script's - straight to the point approach to music.
I also kept the back cover simple, this time keeping the background black and the wording white - a reverse to the original. I decided to put a quote from other music fanatics this single, such as BBC Radio 1 DJ Zane Lowe, who is definate Script fan, and Mojo music magazine, giving the album cover some authenticity.
