Brown Sugar - Romance & Hip Hop film

BROWN  SUGAR
starring Taye Diggs and Sanaa Lathan
Directed by Rick Famyuwia
Screenplay/Writer: Michael Elliot

Currently sat watching  an old video  I found in my attic, called Brown Sugar, It is a fictional story about two Friends; a magazine editor and a hip-hop record executive, who have been friends since childhood and now stumble into romantic territory. But discover their only true loves are music, in particular - Hip Hop.

The title sequence is a flurry of different interviews with artists of the American Hip Hop genre, set in 2002 the artists are asked what Hip Hop means to them, and their answers are all different and unique, giving a real insight into where the heart felt lyrics have emerged...

TBC after the movie ---

According to IMDb it only rates at a 5.9/10 out of 3,079 users,
Probably due to its weak/corny storyline and plot, however there are some really good bits and over all it is a funny feel good movie and I really like it! One of those C rate movies that never quite make it to boxoffice yet is quite nice and easy to watch... with loads of references to hip hop!

Strokes of brilliance include; the interviews at the start with Hip Hop artists are definately a different twist.
It also stars one of my faveeeeee actors: Taye Diggs, who has also been in The Best Man and How Stella Got Her Groove Back, the film of the book by Terry MacMillan... lovelovelove!

The movie also stars Mos Def - Hip Hop legend of the 80's and 90's, Queen Latifah, and Common and many other artists I have previously spoken about in the history of Urban Music.
